Reviewing the temporary Backup Exec upgrade log (bkuptemp.log) the last lines reported:

bkuptemp.log is located in the following locations:
 
C:\ProgramData\Veritas\Backup Exec\Logs\
C:\ProgramDta\Arctera\Backup Exec\Logs

Cause

Large amount of catalog files (size of the Catalog folder) or large amount of catalog files (many individual catalog files).

Backup Exec Catalogs are located in \Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\Catalogs folder.

 

 

Resolution

Due to the size or amount of files in Catalog folder, this process could take an extended amount of time.

Do not cancel the Backup Exec upgrade and wait for the Catalog  Synchronizing to complete.

 

Note: In certain scenarios, this process could take over one hour to several hours.

 

 

 

 

Issue/Introduction

During upgrade to Backup Exec the install migration may hang. The upgrade or install screen hangs on "Synchronizing Catalog Index Database" for an extended amount of time.
