Backup job log reports the following:

Final error: 0xe0009585 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine. 
Final error category: Resource Errors

Connection to the restore target has been lost. Operation canceled. 

SGMON Debug log reports the following:

BEREMOTE: [2988] 111 [fsys\shared] - VDDK-Log: CnxOpenTCPSocket: Cannot connect to server ESX_ServerName:902: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 
BEREMOTE: [2988] 111 [fsys\shared] - VDDK-Log: CnxAuthdConnect: Returning false because CnxAuthdConnectTCP failed 
BEREMOTE: [2988] 111 [fsys\shared] - VDDK-Log: CnxConnectAuthd: Returning false because CnxAuthdConnect failed 

 

Cause

IP address of the ESX host mentioned in the HOSTS file of the Backup Exec server is incorrect. 

 

Resolution

  1. Go to the command prompt (Start > Run > Cmd)
     
  2. Ping the ESX host and note the following information:
    • IP address
    • ESX Host Name. 
       
  3. Add host entries on the Backup Server for the ESX Server:

    Browse to the hosts file location: :\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and add the information recorded in the previous step.

    Example:
    127.0.0.1           ESX_ServerName
