V-79-57344-65233 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on "\\X\System State"
This is a known issue that can occur when a Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 recovery volume does not have enough free space to snap the volume.
For Windows Server 2012 R2 computers or virtual machines, back up the System State by moving Shadow Storage to another volume. If that does not work, enable a registry key that lets Backup Exec skip the recovery environment when it backs up System State. For Windows 8.1 computers, enable the registry key.
Moving Shadow Storage (Windows Server 2012 R2 only)
It may be possible to successfully back up the System State on a Windows Server 2012 R2 computer or virtual machine by manually moving the Shadow Storage to another volume. First, determine the volume GUID for the Windows recovery volume. Then, use the following command to add Shadow Storage to another volume:
vssadmin add shadowstorage
For more information about determining the volume GUID or moving Shadow Storage, refer to the Microsoft knowledge base.
After moving the Shadow Storage to another volume, rerun the backup job. If the job still is not successful, enable the registry key that lets Backup Exec skip the recovery environment when it backs up System State.
Enabling a registry key to skip the recovery environment (Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2)
To back up the System State on a Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 computer or virtual machine by enabling a registry key that lets Backup Exec skip the recovery environment when it backs up System State.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried out by persons who are experienced in the use of the registry editor application. Veritas recommends that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
Complete the following steps to enable the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\veritas\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Simplified System Protection\
Now back up the System State on the computer or virtual machine. If a disaster recovery needs to be performed on the computer or virtual machine, the Windows recovery volume will not be recovered. The recovery volume components must be recreated.
Refer to the section "Manually re-create the WinRE partition" in the following Microsoft knowledge base article for more information about recreating the recovery volume components:
