Cause

This error can be caused if the Windows Script Host is disabled.

Resolution

  1.  To check if Windows Script Host is enabled, run the following command in an Administrator command prompt:
    • wscript
  2. If a pop up shows up with the following text: "Windows Script Host access is disabled on this machine. Contact your administrator for details". Continue to step four.
  3. If a dialog pop up shows up with the title "Windows Script Host Settings", this means Windows Script Host is enabled, and is not the root cause of your issue.
    1. Check to make sure the account that you are currently logged in has proper rights to create a dedupe folder.
    2. Run a repair install of Backup Exec, and ensure it is up to date via LiveUpdate.
  1. Open Regedit and navigate to the following path:
    1. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings
    2. Create or modify DWORD "Enabled" and set it to 1
    3. Now try to create a Backup Exec Dedupe Folder.

Warning :   Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry.
