Error Message

In a remote recovery scenario:

 
Backup Exec skipped a device which has been locked by bitlocker. Bitlocker-enabled devices must be unlocked before Backup Exec can access them.
 
 
In a local recovery scenario:
 
Unable to attach to target device.

Cause

 

PGP whole disk encryption is enabled on the disk SDR is to restore to.

Resolution

 Clear the PGP encryption to permit the restore:

  1. Boot using the Simplified Disaster Recovery disk (SDR)
  2. From the main window click the Utilities then click Start Command Prompt.
  3. Type diskpart and then press Enter.
  4. Type list disk and press Enter.
  5. Type select disk # where # is the PGP-encrypted disk and press Enter.

WARNING: Incorrect disk selection on systems containing more then one disk can result in data lost.

  1. Type clean and press Enter; press y to confirm the disk erasure.
  2. Once confirmation of the disk has been erased, type exit and press Enter to leave disk part utility.
  3. Type exit and press Enter again to leave the command prompt.
  4. Click the Recovery tab and select the Recover This Computer wizard to proceed in performing a disaster recovery of this system using the desired drive.

In the event, upon initial reboot fails after the recovery had complete with error: "Operating System Not Found" or " Missing Operating System" do the following:

Type exit and press Enter again to leave the command prompt.

  1. Reboot the recovered system with the Simplified Disaster Recovery disk (SDR).
  2. From the main window click the Utilities then click Start Command Prompt.
  3. Do one of the following:
    1.   If system restored a Windows Vista/2008 or later, type: BOOTSECT /NT60 c: /MBR (ensure that c:\ is the system volume. If not, adjust drive letter accordingly).
    2. If system is Windows XP/2003, type: BOOTSECT /NT52 c: /MBR (ensure that c:\ is the system volume. If not, adjust drive letter accordingly).
  4. Type exit and press Enter to leave the command prompt.
  5. Remove the recovery disk, reboot the system; if prompted type in the correct PGP pass phrase, and log into system.
