Applies To

This issue affects NetBackup (model: 5200, 5220), Pure Disk (Model: 5000, 5020) and Backup Exec (Model: 3600) appliances. This applies no matter the software release version.

Issue/Introduction

Appliances that sit in distribution centers for long periods of time prior to being shipped to a customer may have a Battery Backup Unit (BBU) that has fully discharged. The RAID controller's BIOS POST operation will interrupt the appliance boot process with a warning stating that the battery charge level is low and that the battery is charging. This is not an error because the RAID Controller BIOS is supposed to pause the appliance boot process when there is an important message. Manual intervention is required to acknowledge this message to allow the appliance booting sequence to continue. The user will not see this message because (1) the silent boot option in appliance BIOS is enabled and (2) the Veritas Splash Screen is displayed to the user.
