Cause
Not a feature of the recovery disk.
Resolution
P2V conversion cannot be performed from the SRD. Conversions need to be done through an installed System Recovery console on either a server or workstation.
Note: By booting a virtual guest system that has mounted the VMDK file has a virtual disk, the V2i image could then be restored to this mounted VMDK file using the SRD.
