The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server .  The target name used was . This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named  machine accounts in the target realm.

 

Cause

Backup Exec 2012 and later versions attempt to discover servers that are not being backed up.  It has been observed that this may cause kerberos in the event logs if we cannot authenticate against the servers.  

 

Resolution

 Disable data discovery:

1. Click the backup Exec Icon.

2. Click Backup Exec Settings.

3. Click Discover Data to Back Up.

4. Uncheck Discover server that have data that has not been backed up.

5. Restart Backup Exec services to commit the change.
