1. You may not be able to see the CIFS shares in the selection when trying to create backup Jobs.
2. When you edit the backup Job, you may get the error "Browse Failure- A network to the server could not be established"
3. When running a backup, it fails immediately with the following error.
"0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Agent for Windows. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer"
1. Disable NDMP Support on the NetApp device. Note: As the Backup Exec Remote Agent uses a subset of the NDMP protocols for communication, as the CIFS backup job starts, if the NetApp device responds to a request to open NDMP communications, then Backup Exec will not be able to fall back to using the Remote Agent on the Backup Exec server to protect the data over a CIFS share located on the same NetApp device. This conflict means that in order to backup over CIFS, the remote device must either not directly support NDMP itself, or MUST have NDMP disabled. Backup Exec therefore does not support CIFS (share level) backup and NDMP Option backup operations from the same device.
2. This error occurs when a Netapp device has been added with the NetBIOS name of the server. The Netapp Device should be added to the list of servers with FQDN or IP address instead.
3. This error indicates there is an issue with the default port of the Remote Agent on the BE server. Change the port number of RAWS on the media server. i.e. In :\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\services file, add an entry like below and check selection.
NDMP 12000/tcp #BE remote agent
4. This can be due to a Remote Agent Licensing issue. Make sure you have at least One Agent for Windows license installed. To backup CIFS shares, BE needs at least one Remote Agent license installed even though the Remote Agent itself cannot run on the target machine.
Network Configuration and performance issues can also cause this error. Follow the article https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000083624 to disable NIC teaming if it is present, and then check whether backup works. If not disable the TCP Offload Chimney feature. Other possible clues may be found in the Windows Event Viewer.
