 0xe00095b4 - Incremental\\Differential backup methods are not supported for this VM. The backup job failed, since the option 'to fall back to a full backup' was not selected

Cause

Virtual machines cannot be backed up by running Full and Incremental\Differential to different media types. This applies to both AVVI and Hyper-V virtual agent backups.

 

Resolution

Run the Full and Incremental\Differential backps to the same media type. You can run the backup job as follows

  1. Full backup to tape media and Incremetal\Differential to tape.
  2. Full backup to B2D and Incremental\Differential to B2D.

 

 

 

Issue/Introduction

AVVI Incremental\Differential backup fails reporting the error "Final error: 0xe00095b4 - Incremental\\Differential backup methods are not supported for this VM. The backup job failed, since the option 'to fall back to a full backup' was not selected" This error occurs when Full backup job is targeted to Tape Media and the Incremental\Differential Job is targeted to Backup-To-Disk (B2D) location.
