Description
Error Message
Ready; No idle devices are available
Cause
This is caused because the Media Server involved has already been recovered to replacement hardware, resulting in the backup device that performed the original backup being offline but still present. The problem is then present, even if the media used by the backup is now located in an online device and has been inventoried and cataloged.
Resolution
Workaround
Choose from one of the following:
1) Install an Operating System (in a workgroup with same server name) and the Backup Exec Remote Agent software onto the server hardware and then perform online/manual restore operations
2) Locate the offline device in the Storage section of the Backup Exec console and delete it.
Issue/Introduction
Whilst attempting to perform a Simplified Disaster Recovery (SDR) restore of a remote server, the "Recover This Computer Wizard" gets as far as the "Restoring data" section which then appears to stall reporting "Status is Running" with no updates for data transfer taking place. Checking the media server "Backup and Restore" section in the admin console shows that a randomly named server has been created with a status of "Simplified Disaster Recovery". However if the status of the jobs against this server is then reviewed it can be seen that the restore job has been created and is showing the Job Status provided in the error section below.
