Error Message
Error during the install : The server XXX does not appear to be a valid central administration server
Error in the sgmon: "The requested registry access is not allowed."
Cause
- The account used to install does not have appropriate permission in the other domain.
- The Remote registry is not accessible.
Resolution
- The BE service account should have administrative rights across both domains.
- The account should be added to local admin group on the media servers and/or domain admin group in both the domains.
- The Domains should have a minimum of one way trust between them.
Consider the following scenario:
Domain Name : Domain1
Account Name : BE1
CASO Sever : Domain1\CASO
Note: BE1 is local admin on the CASO server and/or member of the Domain admin group in Domain1
Domain Name : Domain2
Account Name : BE2
MMS Sever : Domain2\MMS
Note: BE2 is local admin on the MMS server and/or member of the Domain admin group in Domain2
Requirements:
- If installing the MMS from CASO on domain1 then, account BE1 should be added to local admin group on MMS (target server) and/or Domain Admin group in Domain2
- The account BE2 should be added to local admin group on CASO (source server) and/or Domain Admin group in Domain1
- UAC should be disabled across both servers.
- Login to the server on which the MMS role has to be installed using account BE2 and install the MMS.
Issue/Introduction
The installation of Managed Media server(MMS) in cross domain environment fails with the following error : "The server XXX does not appear to be a valid central administration server''
