This issue may occur if the backup job is using a third party snapshot provider or if the writers are unstable/failed

1. Open command prompt on the affected server (Start - Run - Cmd)
    
2. Type vssadmin list writers and press Enter to ensure all the writers are stable.
   
   1. In case of writer failures / errors, reboot the server in question and check the writer status again.
   2. If the writers still show failures, contact Microsoft technical support for advanced troubleshooting and repair of the VSS system.
      or
      If the writers show stable with no errors, attempt to run the backup job again.
       
3. Check the job properties and make sure "Use Microsoft Shadow Copy Provider" is selected in Advance Open File option.
