Error Message

V-79-57344-38725 - One or more virtual disks contain volumes that do not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). Granular restores cannot be performed for these volumes.

The following Warning is displayed in the System Log on the Backup Exec Media Server during the job:

System Log Warning:

Log Name:      System
Source:        partmgr
Event ID:      58
Level:         Warning
Keywords:      Classic
Description:
The signature of disk because it is equal to the disk signature of disk

Cause

This failure occurs due to the Backup Exec Media Server disks and the Virtual machines disks having the same disk signature.  When a VMware or Hyper-V agent backup to disk takes place the Virtual Machines disk files are temporarily mounted out of the Backup Exec Media servers Back-to-Disk or deduplication location.  If any of the disk signatures on local disks on the Backup Exec media server match the disk signatures sing natures inside the Virtual disk file a disk signature collision occurs and the Operating System Returns a warning and Backup Exec is unable to mount and read the Virtual disk file to collect the GRT information.

Disk Collision conflict can occur after using 3rd Party utilities to convert a Physical Server to a Virtual Server or cloning utilities.

Resolution

Check and Fix the Disk Signature Conflict.

To check Disk Signature or ID use the Windows DISKPART utility commands "detail disk" and "uniqueid".

Note:  Before attempting to fix the disk signature conflict backup the Virtual Machine using the Backup Exec remote agent (AWS) by installing the remote agent inside the guest or copy the Virtual machines (VHD files) to another directory or volume.

Contact Microsoft Support for further assistance changing the Disk Signature/ID.

Issue/Introduction

When performing a VMWare or Hyper-V Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) backup, the job may complete with and exception that one of the Virtual Machine disks may not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) when the disk signatures on the Backup Exec media server are the same as the Virtual Machines.
