Cause
This error can be caused by partition table errors. VSR is sector-based and is dependent on a correctly configured partition layout.
Resolution
- Check for and correct partition table errors using the information from the following document:

OR
- Click on Windows Start | Run | type "services.msc", click ok.
- Locate and stop the ‘Veritas System Recovery’ service.
- Create a new folder called ‘OLD’, and move (do not copy) all files with the file extensions “.PQH, located by default in C:\ProgramData\Veritas\VERITAS SYSTEM RECOVERY\History\ folder to 'OLD' folder:
- Start the Veritas System Recovery service.
Issue/Introduction
No partitions are seen in the Veritas System Recovery (VSR) console. The Status Details window displays a blue question mark icon and a message "Unable to determine status". Error says "Cannot determine protection." VSR does not recognize any of the partitions on one or more disks. Partitions are seen correctly in Windows.
This issue can also be seen after an upgrade of Veritas System Recovery.
