The data being read from the media is inconsistent

Cause

Unable to restore from Encrypted Duplicate Sets if the media is spanned.

Individual selections from the set that reside on the first media will restore successfully. The problem is when individual selections from the set reside on the continuation media.  

 

 

Resolution

Upgrade to the current Version of Backup Exec 

 WORKAROUND:

 Disable Fast File Restore in the Backup Exec Registry

 

 Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

 

A) On the Backup Exec media server open the registry edit by going to Start - Run - Regedit

 B) To disable Fast File Restore set registry key  to 0.  

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Tape Format/Use Fast File Restore

 C) Restart the Backup Exec services 

 D) Perform the Restore

 E) Set the registry key to 1 to enable "Fast File Restore" and restart the Backup Exec services.
