Resolution

1.  Run a repair of the Backup Exec installation
2.  Reboot the server

Should the Backup Exec console fails to load again with error "Specified cast is not valid",  the installation log BKUPINST.HTM will show the following:


05-26-2012,00:03:46 : Action 0:03:46: StopBEServices. Stopping Backup Exec services
05-26-2012,00:03:46 : Action start 0:03:46: StopBEServices.
05-26-2012,00:03:47 : There are currently 1 active backup jobs on the Backup Exec server. Please stop any active backup jobs or wait for them to complete before selecting Retry, or select Cancel to try again later.
05-26-2012,00:03:47 : V-225-95: ERROR: VerifyJobsRunning failed with a value of 1602 ***To search for information about this error, click here

3.  Stop and start all the Backup Exec services to "terminate" any active jobs
4.  Run another repair of the Backup Exec installation
5.  Reboot the server
 


Issue/Introduction

This error is usually seen after an upgrade of the Backup Exec program or a migration of Backup Exec from a 32 bit server to a new 64 bit server.
