Could not start the Backup Exec DLO Maintenance Service on Local Computer

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Cause

There are at least two causes of this error:

  1. If the process "dlomaintsvcu.exe" is already running on the system.
  2. If a .DLL file is missing from the "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\DLO"

Resolution

Follow one of the solutions mentioned below to resolve this issue:

  1. Open Task Manager for Windows and find if "dlomaintsvcu.exe" is running.
    If the process "dlomaintsvcu.exe" is already running, end the process and try starting the service again.
     
  2. Open the path "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\DLO" (Or the path that Backup Exec is installed to) and run "dlomaintsvcu.exe".
    A new window should pop up stating what file is missing.
    If a window does show what file is missing, run a repair install of Backup Exec to replace the missing file.
