Cause
1. DNS/Network Issues
2. Passwords containing special characters
Resolution
DNS/Network Issues:
- Test adding the ESX host and vCenter server by server name, FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) and IP Address in Host file on Backup Exec Server. The location for the host file is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
- Confirm the vCenter or ESX servers can be pinged from the Backup Exec server by server name, FQDN and/or IP
- Confirm the Backup Exec server can be pinged from the vCenter and ESX hosts by server name, FQDN and/or IP
- Check if vCenter is configured on a port other than the defaults (80 and 443)
Password Issue:
Confirm the passwords for the ESX host root user and Backup Exec service account used to access vCenter do NOT have any of the following characters. \"@#$%^&*()=+|/{}[]. If so, remove these characters from the password. Which means, change the password and do not include given characters. Kindly take all necessary action before changing Backup Exec or ESX password.
