1. Open a command prompt (START | RUN | CMD | OK)
2. Type (without quotes) "vssadmin list writers" and press enter.
3. Verify that all writers are listed as "Stable" with "No Errors".

In the Backup Options of the job, select the Advanced Open File section and from the snapshot provider drop down select "System - Use Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider".
Check the application event logs for any Hardware Snapshot Provider errors at the time of the backup job.
Test VSS Snapshot creation:
1. Go to Windows Explorer, right click the C drive and select properties.
2. Select the "Shadow Copies" tab.
3. Select the first volume and click on Create Now.
4. If a snapshot is created successfully, the created date and time is added at the left of the button.
5. Select the date and time and click Delete Now.
6. Do the same for all the other volumes as well.
