The Pre-Scan option in Backup Exec will cause the job to first look at all data to be backed up prior to actually going to backup that data so it can create a percentage bar for the job.

This will slow down the job. The setting is off by default.

Go into Tools\Options\Preferences and turn off "Display progress indicators for backup jobs. This requires additional time to pre-scan devices."
