Description: The Backup Exec Server service hung on starting.

 

Cause

Backup job marked in a invalid state in the Backup Exec database.

 

Resolution

1. Open a command prompt to the Backup Exec installation directory (X:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec).  Alternatively the Backup Exec SGMON Live Debug utility can be used to capture the same output during the service start.

2. Type (without quotes) "beserver -console"

3. Review the beserver console output for the following statements just before the program exits for "JobState=16"


BESERVER:      16 CJobManager::LoadAllJobData( ): generating workitem linkages...
BESERVER:      16 CJobManager::LoadAllJobData( ): recovering tasks...
BESERVER:      16 Job Dispatcher: RecoverActiveTask() job name= "JOB NAME" , JobState=16
BESERVER:      16 Job Dispatcher: Not restarting job
BESERVER:      16 Job Dispatcher: Setting job status=JOB_STATE_ERROR

BESERVER:      16 Job Dispatcher: Job Dispatcher: Marking task for possible reschedule
