Cause

Backup exec will not show the tape drive attached to the NDMP server in the devices tab even though the NDMP server (EMC or Netapp) detects the tape drive attached to it.  A nonqualified tape drive is typically one that is unsupported by the NDMP server OS.  These tape devices may work with the OS if they can emulate a supported tape device.

Resolution

On the NDMP server run the sysconfig -t command to check the status of the tape drive.

Alternately for Ontap OS servers use the command storage tape show-supported-status as below.

In both cases the NDMP server is not able to emulate the tape drive (unsupported tape drive for the NDMP server), so the hardware manufacturer/support should be contacted to resolve this issue.

Issue/Introduction

Tape drives in a robotic library are not visible in Backup exec when the NDMP server detects the tape drive as "Non-qualified tape drive" or "Nonqualified tape drive".
