Cause
A junction point is set to a non-existing directory.
Resolution
The following steps will help identify where the the broken junction point is :-
1. Open a command prompt (start > run > cmd)
2. Navigate to the root of the drive being backed up (c:\>)
3. Enter the command: dir /aL
4. Review the results (ie. Documents and Settings [W:\Users])
5. Enter the command: dir /aL /S
6. Review the results as this will show the files and subdirectories which would indicate issues with the User Profiles
7. Check the validity of the targets (ie. Does W:\Users exist, is this where it's supposed to be pointing to...etc..)
Remove the junction point from the selections or correct the junction point target before continuing backups. If the above checks out OK, then the issue is elsewhere.
NOTE : This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2010 R3 which allows backups to run without the service crash. However, the issue remains at the operating system level may potentially cause other issues unrelated to backups.
